Malawi Team L to R: Brenda Wagner, Tracee Horvath, Linette Hindley, Elijah Horvath, Elisha Horvath, Beth Allen, Zoltan Horvath, Noah Horvath, James Wagner. (missing: Elliot Wagner)

A talented team of St. John’s members will travel to our Anglican partner diocese in the Upper Shire, Malawi from July 17-31. Malawi, often called “the warm heart of Africa,” is a land-locked nation in south-eastern Africa and is among the world’s least-developed countries. St. John’s has had a partnership with the Diocese of Upper Shire since 2003 that exists to encourage one another and to help spread and strengthen the gospel.

There are many ways in which this team will be helping those in the diocese. Brenda Wagner and Zoltan Horvath, both doctors, will be busy with medical ministry at St. Luke’s Hospital, while the rest of the team will attend various ministries, lead Bible study training sessions, build relationships, visit with our sponsored priests and past guests, and observe an Opportunity International micro-finance project.

The team is raising funds for trip costs which will also include medical kits, Bibles, and baby blankets. You can help support them by donating funds (link below) and by praying for this enthusiastic and dedicated group.

+ Prayer Requests

As we pray through the Psalms this summer, please be attuned to verses which might be applied on behalf of the summer team as they encounter the following situations:

  • Being overwhelmed by the physical poverty of the people they meet
  • Gratefulness for the overwhelming hospitality of their hosts
  • Confusion and feeling “in the dark” because of cultural differences
  • Hope for change and deliverance from suffering
  • Physical strength and desire to work God’s will and speak his words
  • Discernment and wisdom in ministry, skill for the medical team
  • Patience for God’s timing in relationships
  • Feeling unworthy of the honour of being welcomed as God’s guest
  • Unfeigned thankfulness for a spiritual communion which transcends all issues of time and place
  • Unity in the fellowship of gospel of Christ bridge both continents and producing joy
